Oklahoma Real Estate in 2010

Real Estate predictions for the Oklahoma City and Edmond area in
2010. Laughing out loud. Who would have ever thought last year would
have turned out as well as it did after the political changes and
ripple affects took place? As the media broadcasts how our economy
continues to plunge in a downward spiral, and unemployment continues to
rise, I keep wondering who are all these people out driving on the
streets when I'm going and coming to work everyday? When I'm in the
quick stops, I wonder why people are spending their money on lottery
tickets, if money is so hard to get? I wonder why I'm at a quick stop,
when I could save money going to a real grocery store. Why do our
local churches continue to grow? Why is Oklahoma City continuing to
build new recreational facilities and parks? There were many new
businesses that opened last year in Oklahoma City, as well as many
other cities in the Greater Oklahoma City area. I see new construction
sites every day.
The smaller towns in Oklahoma are also growing with
new businesses to accommodate the families that don't want to live in
the big cities.
I believe the Oklahoma media does a good job.
I also know that they are not omnipresent and only go by the data they
received. If the media goes to a business that has held their breath
until it's turned blue, because that company thinks their going under
due to a dip in revenue, they will get negative information. I also
feel that the local media tries to synchronize with the national media
just to keep their ratings up. Going against the grain of the big
boys, would not make them look good. I know some companies have shot themselves in the foot by laying off personal, because it looks good on
paper. I believe that when the economy takes off again, these companies
will be hurting for production and customer service. They may not know
it now, but the experienced workers they have laid off, will be hard to
find when things accelerate.
The present has little to do with
the past, and the past has nothing to do with the future. Time stamps
are only stretches of space for market indicators and have nothing to
do with the possibilities of our future. Man created time out of his
own imagination for communication and coordination with other humans.
It is useful, but not critical to our achievements of the present,
past, or future. I only say this, because it appears that we do not
learn as well as we should from our mistakes.
I choose to
believe we are headed for growth in Oklahoma City that will exceed
most people's expectations. Being centrally located in the United
States, we
have top notch hospitals, rail systems, crossroads of
interstate transportation, and airport facilities which give us much
potential. I feel the biggest drawback is in the political arena. This
is where we can do our part. If our leaders need direction, it is up
to the people to give it to them. We decide who our leaders are and
that gives us the power to get their attention.
The National
Association of Realtors has done a great job of keeping your home's
value from turning to rubbish. Yes, there has been a slow down, and
even a drop in equity in some instances, but without the help of the
NAR, the housing market would be in worse shape. The National
Association of Realtors (NAR) has stood at the front door of our
Nation's capital fighting to make things better.
